Designing and delivering solutions that make a difference.

This exciting program is creating the next generation of social entrepreneurs and engineers! Engineering Projects in Community Service at Arizona State University (EPICS High) is an engineering design, service-based learning, and social entrepreneurship program for high school and middle school students that incorporates the engineering and human-centered design processes in providing real solutions to real world problems facing society. To identify and address these problems, EPICS High teams typically work closely with their schools or not-for-profit agencies.

Invest Your Time

Industry professionals play an important role in guiding EPICS High teams through the design process to create the most value for both students and community stakeholders. By participating in the EPICS High Industry Engagement Program, professionals support teams in a variety of ways, including:

Mentorship
Regularly visiting (virtual or in person) a local high school classroom to advise and guide student teams as they develop their engineering projects. This would entail developing a relationship with teams at a school over time.

Career Presentations
Scheduling a time to visit a classroom to share information about your career and how you became an engineer. This may be a one-time commitment but could be repeated at multiple schools.

Design Reviews
Listening to teams pitch their designs and provide feedback and input. Again, this would be a one-time commitment but could be repeated at multiple schools.

Pitch Funding Proposal Reviews
Reviewing and scoring Pitch Funding proposals from local teams seeking funding to support their community projects. Each proposal takes 20-30 minutes to score.
