Support K-12 Events
Make a difference for K-12 kids
Throughout the year, the Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) hosts a multitude of events designed to engage Kindergarten – 12th grade students through sparking and fostering an interest in engineering and STEM. Community support is one of the driving forces behind the success of these events. If you’re interested in giving your time and energy to FSE, please take a look at the events below:
Girls Make-A-Thon (GMAT)
At GMAT, 8th-12th grade girls are invited to spend a day engaging with female engineering industry employees, as well as female engineering faculty. Volunteers assist a keynote presentation, speed networking fair, a mentors luncheon, and a Maker’s Challenge for the Girls.
Spark App League
This two day competition encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration through coding. ASU professors and industry mentors are invited to assist onsite, guiding students as they build their games. Students learn the importance and power of coding by working in teams of 2-3 to develop a game using Scratch from MIT.
Field Trip Days
Throughout the academic year, the K12 Engineering Education and Outreach department executes half day engagements for 3rd -12th grade students. Volunteers are invited to do mock lectures, facilitate hands on engineering design challenges, or participate on panels to give students a glimpse into their roles in the engineering industry. Field trips for elementary and middle school students take place at the Tempe campus and field trips for high school students take place at the Poly Campus.
The National Center for Women and Information Technology and Arizona State University host a scholarship opportunity for young women interested in pursuing a career in computer science. Volunteers engaging in this effort can serve as members of the scholarship panel, speak at the awards banquet, and assist with general event execution.ate on planning committees.
Fulton Summer Academies
Do you or your company have an idea that can be morphed into a summer camp? Work with Fulton to develop week-long engaging summer programs. Volunteers will work on idea generation, curriculum development, and summer camp execution.
Promote opportunities to volunteer with the ASU Engineering Department in your employee communications. Your staff members can assist with event and program preparation, day of execution, and/or participate on planning committees.
